Photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation or Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is commonly used for lightening and removing age spots, sun spots, redness, and any brown marks or blemishes on the face, chest, neck, or hands. Any redness and rosacea-related redness, broken blood vessels, and dilated blood vessels are also reduced or eliminated with the Photorejuvenation treatment. To a lesser degree, collagen production is also stimulated during this treatment, improving skin texture and minimizing the appearance of pore size by the temporary reduction of oiliness.

Am I a Good Candidate for Photorejuvenation?

If you have been looking for a treatment for freckles, age spots, or those unsightly dilated blood vessels, you may be an ideal candidate for Photorejuvenation. Pregnant women should not undergo this procedure since there has been no testing to prove it’s harmless during pregnancy.

What is recovery like from Photorejuvenation?

When used on veins, there might be a slight redness to your skin which can take 2 to 5 days to resolve. You may use makeup immediately after treatment. In rare cases, there might be bruising, which can take a week or two to fully resolve.

In cases of age spots or wrinkles, the treated spots may look darker for the first 3 to 7 days post-treatment. Crusting, if it occurs, can remain for about 10 days. These lesions will fully disappear in a month’s time and any age spots take 3 to 5 treatments to be lightened/improved.

What happens during Photorejuvenation?

Depending on the size of the area to be treated, your Photorejuvenation treatment will last 30 to 90 minutes. Some patients report a mild discomfort during treatment, but are able to tolerate the removal of the age spots and dilated blood vessels with ease. The first treatment may give some discomfort, but the subsequent treatments become easier as the skin becomes clearer.

Before the procedure begins, a cooling gel is placed on the treatment area before the handpiece is gently applied. The pulses of light flashing may slightly sting your skin; most patients say it feels like the snapping of a small rubber band. Once the gel is cleared after treatment, a sunscreen and moisturizer will be applied to protect the treated skin. If any mild swelling persists, you may be asked to apply an ice pack for 5 to 10 days following treatment.

What can I expect from my Photorejuvenation results?

Following your initial Photorejuvenation treatment, your skin might have a slight redness to it, darkening of the brown spots may occur, as well as some possible swelling. You will see even toned, smoother skin within a day’s time after treatment. After each additional treatment, you will find that your skin shows decreased flushing, redness, fine lines and age spots. It is imperative that you protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun so as to prolong the results from your Photorejuvenation treatments.

The Benefits of Photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation, also known as IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy, offers a range of benefits for the skin. One of the primary advantages is its ability to target a variety of skin issues, including sun damage, age spots, freckles, and redness caused by broken capillaries. The treatment works by delivering intense pulses of light to the skin, which penetrates deep into the tissue and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. This helps to improve skin texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and even out skin tone.

Another benefit of photorejuvenation is its non-invasive nature. Unlike more aggressive treatments, such as chemical peels or laser resurfacing, photorejuvenation does not require any downtime and typically has minimal side effects. Patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. Additionally, photorejuvenation is a relatively quick procedure, with sessions typically lasting between 15 to 30 minutes, making it a convenient option for those with busy schedules. Overall, photorejuvenation is a safe and effective way to improve the appearance of the skin and achieve a more youthful complexion.
